2018 Tour de France
Excitement is hotting up for the 2018 Tour de France. It’s not long before this great annual cycling competition kicks off and we, at Cycle Revival are watching for developments with interest.
It always gives our customers a further incentive to get their bikes out and go just that bit further than they normally do. And new cyclists get the bug and come in to enquire about buying a bicycle.
7 July is the start of the race. It goes on until 29 July and as ever, guarantees to be a great race. There are 21 stages and 176 riders competing to get to the big finish in Paris.
It will start in Noirmoutier-en-l’Ile in the Vendée. The stages include a 35.5km team time trial around Cholet on stage 3 – a discipline that is often a very strong indicator of a team’s collective strength for the entire Tour – and a tough conclusion to the end of stage 6 with the climb of the Mûr-de-Bretagne, which last featured at the Tour in 2015.
Stage 9, on the World Cup final day, will mimic the one day Classic Paris Roubaix, with the challenging cobbled streets. Stage 17 will then be the 65km mountain stage.
Three summit finishes; the legendary ski resort Alpes d’Huez (not been used for 3 years), and two other downhill finishes, at Le Grand Bornand and Bagneres-de-Luchon. Downhill can be just as challenging as uphill and consistently proves the undoing of many a rider.
There is also one time trial. Consisting of 31km and this will decide the final podium places, the day before the finale in Paris.
