Who are Wisper?

Wisper started production in 2005 and has been at the forefront of E-bike development in the UK since. They are also one of the founding members of the British Electric Bicycle Association. A member of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Cycling, and sit on the E-bike committee of the Bicycle Association of Great Britain. Wisper is very much an involved brand.

Wisper Electric Semi Off-Road Bikes

E-bikes in general are rapidly getting more and more popular. The latest figures compiled by NPD indicate a growth rate for electric bikes of 240% in the 12 months leading up to July 2021.

All the latest Wisper Electric Semi Off-Road Bikes are rear-wheel-driven. However, this was not always the case.

Previously, Wisper were exclusively front-wheel-driven bicycles. However, through their many years of design testing, they found that power driven to the front wheel has a negative effect on handling. So they changed it!

This poor handling was seen even more so with the introduction of more modern motors. Wisper manufactures some of the most powerful motors on the market. This high torque often meant that there was far too much rotational force on the front wheel. This increased force often caused the bike to lose grip and traction from underneath you. Swapping the motor to the rear prevented this.

Wisper Hybrid City, Off-Road and Adventure Bikes

Many of Wisper’s bikes are compatible with both a general ride to work as well as a tough day in the hills and forests. Their ‘City-Spec’ offers a comfortable commuter or day-to-day workhorse. However, underneath the city exterior beats the heart of a true thoroughbred.

The hidden away Wayfarer motor develops 100Nm of torque. Strip off the comfort products, change the tyres and you have an off-roader perfect for whatever you throw at it. The very stiff step-through frame is perfect for those of us who really care about comfort but don’t want to compromise on control.
