Leisure/Sport Bikes
First of all, let’s make it clear that in this leisure/sports bikes section we are talking about drop bar and flat bar Road bikes. Bikes that are intended predominantly on the road, or very smooth surfaces.
The leisure road bikes come in with either straight bar or drop bar types. The straight bar gives a more upright sitting position and the drop bar has a more head down, sporty, sitting position. Which one you choose depends on personal needs or purpose. We can guide you through what is possibly the most confusing sector of the bike market.
We have acquired many customers from far and wide over the years that we’ve had our cycle shop in Heathfield, East Sussex. We have a friendly but professional approach and by talking with our customers we can find the correct bike for you.
Drop Bars
The Leisure bikes that are on drop bars, as we’ve already said, are for the sportier rider, fast longer distance commuter or the weekend sports person who maybe wants to join a bike club and ride a more rapid club outing. The leisure drop bar road bike is often a more relaxed sitting position to that of the Road Race bike, and is often referred to as having endurance geometry.
Straight Bars
The leisure straight bar road bike is often a favorite for those who want a fast ride but need or want to sit in a more upright sitting position. To put it another way; they want a fast bike but not with dropped bars; sometimes referred to as an ALP, (Aero Light weight Performance). The more heads up position does give a more alert way to ride in town traffic. Or maybe it’s that the consumer suffers with neck or back pain; maybe they get numb or tingly fingers. All reasons for considering the more relaxed sitting position. Maybe you need to consider a more Urban style bike – still fast and responsive!
