Traditional Bikes
Traditional bikes, also might be called sit up and beg style bikes, town bikes or village bikes. At Cycle Revival our bike shop here in Heathfield, East Sussex we don’t forget our roots. Within the 400+ bikes that we hold here in store we include a variety of Traditional ladies and gents bikes in a number of brands.
The Traditional bike will usually have a much more upright comfy sitting position, which is often referred to as the Dutch sitting position due partly to the sometimes Dutch swept-back handlebars. The bike will be very comfortable to ride, easy on the back, base of the spine, the sit bones, the neck, arms and hands. It will probably have only 6/7 gears but a wide enough ratio to ride around a hilly town environment. If you want this style of bike but want to use it for longer rides there are models with 21+ gears which make it much more useable on longer countryside riding, or maybe sauntering down the Cuckoo Trail just down the lane from us here in Heathfield!
The Traditional bike can sometimes come fully equipped with a rear rack, full mudguards and front basket. These bikes might look old fashioned and heavy but they are a modern take on the old traditional bike, so one gets retro aesthetics with modern equipment, safety and style, and some are in fact very light, with alloy frames, alloy wheels and all lightweight equipment!
Whilst most of the Traditional bikes are in a loop frame, (this can be unisex), men’s specific versions are made. If one doesn’t want an off the peg totally equipped bike, one can purchase a more-or-less equipped bike and make it bespoke to your very own specification, we cater for all.
