Buying a new bike can be quite a stressful thing to do! With there being so much to consider and it potentially being an expensive endeavour, it should be clear why you should buy from a local bike shop!
It’s Easy
A big selling point of buying locally is that it’s so much easier than doing it online. We get it, you have a lot of questions that you don’t know the answers to. A local, independent bike shop is going to be more than happy to help with all of these. Whether it’s a sizing question or maybe more technical ones, we’ll do everything we can to help find the perfect bike for you. After all, there’s nothing worse then buying something online and it not fitting right – it’s enough hassle when it’s a pair of jeans, let alone a bike!
Advice
Potentially the most valuable thing any good local bike shop will give you is friendly, honest advice on what they believe would suit your needs. Anything from advice on what type of bike to a certain model or advice on how to take care of it after purchase, we will always do our best for you.
We live and breathe bikes here at Cycle Revival our independent bike shop in East Sussex. We really value our customers as they are at the centre of everything we do. We also believe that as a local business we are in touch with the community on a more personal level, at least we hope so. Quality
Independent bike shops will sell quality bikes as they won’t be tied to any one manufacturer. With large shop chains, that could mean lower quality bikes could potentially be sold, because of the ties they hold with the bike manufacturer. Furthermore, us local businesses don’t have anywhere near the same sort of marketing budgets than some of the larger companies, so we have to rely more on the quality of our products we sell and the customer service we give to retain our customers, the experience you get when you buy independently!
Choice
It is typical for a local bike shop to have a wider selection of bikes fit for more peoples needs. This is due to independent bike shops only stocking the models they want, from the manufactures chosen to work with. Independent bike shops will stock bikes that there is demand for, taking into account what’s popular in their local area. Essentially, they will be able to suit the needs better of the local community.
Servicing
A bike purchased online in a box might save you money initially but often the bike isn’t serviced and still needs the majority of it assembled. We have seen some very unsafe bikes brought to us after the Christmas period to be properly serviced and have spotted many things dangerously wrong, such as:
- front forks facing backwards
- brakes set up incorrectly
- tyres on the wrong way around
- steering not adjusted
- handle-bars not being tight enough!
In some cases these are enough to cause serious accidents for the rider.
However, here at Cycle Revival we offer a thorough Pre Delivery inspection when you buy from us, ensuring that your bike is safe to use as soon as you take it out the shop!
Gifting
Many parents will watch their child’s excitement at receiving a bike for Christmas, only to take it away for an hour or so (when you know exactly what you’re doing) to try to put the bike together, whilst their little one patiently waits to get out there. Not to mention having all the correct tools to even do so.
The best alternative is easy, purchasing a bike from a local shop and then having them riding around all day on Christmas day while you sit back with a sherry! It really is a no brainer. Plus the reassurance of a free service a couple of months later to ensure all teething and settling in of the bike is taken care of, the choice is clear.
